7 FREE Things to do at Walt Disney World

Free at Walt Disney World

Written by: Robynn Ogert

Sometimes you want to have some fun at Disney World without spending a lot of money.  Many things at Disney can cost quite a bit but there are also a lot of things to do for FREE!  Whether you have a rest day or just want a short break from the parks, check out this list of some of the best free things to do while you are on your Walt Disney World vacation.

1. Movies Under the Stars at a WDW resort.

Did you know that many resorts have movies outside in the evenings?  Grab a snack and head outdoors to watch some of your favorite Disney movies.  This is a great way to end a busy day at the parks.

2. Disney Springs

You might think of Disney Springs as somewhere that you spend a lot of money but there is a lot to do for free.  Sit outside and listen to a live band.  Visit the Waterside Stage and catch a performance.  Grab some free samples at Ghirardelli.  And of course, window shop.  You could spend hours just walking around checking all Disney Springs has to offer.  During the holidays you can enjoy the Christmas tree trail too!

3. Watch the Electrical Water Pageant

Grab a place to watch at the Polynesian, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, or Grand Floridian.  You’ll see a parade on the Seven Seas Lagoon.  Just relax and enjoy the show.  You don’t have to be staying at these resorts to enjoy the show!

4. Explore Disney from the Skyliner

Take a free ride around Walt Disney World.  You’ll get some great views and can even hop off at the resorts and explore while you’re there.  The Skyliner has two lines and runs between Art of Animation and Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, Rivera Resort, and the Boardwalk area behind the Epcot World Showcase as well as to Hollywood Studios.  Using the Skyliner is a great way to explore the other resorts which is a favorite pastime of many Disney fans. Especially during the holidays when the resorts are decorated!

5. Celebration Buttons

Whatever you are celebrating, there’s a button for you!  “First visit”, “I’m Celebrating”, “Happy Birthday
and “Happily Ever After” are the four offered for free.  Be creative and celebrate something every day of your Disney World vacation!

6. Ride the Monorail

The Monorail is an attraction in itself.  It will take you to Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Polynesian (stop for Pork Nachos here), Grand Floridian, and Epcot.  My favorite view from the monorail is this one inside Epcot.  Riding the monorail is the only way you can see Epcot without a park ticket.  Of course, if you want to explore Epcot and the World Showcase you will need a ticket, which is not so free!  Hop on the Monorail and do a little resort hopping.

7. Visit the animals of the Savanna

Visit Animal Kingdom Lodge and enjoy the savannah and the animals.  Most guests don’t know that you don’t have to be staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge to explore the resort and all it has to offer.  While you’re there ask for an animal viewing guide to help navigate the three savannas on site.
