Utopia of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s newest Oasis Class ship and officially set sail in July 2024. With up to 5,668 guests, 2,834 staterooms, and eight distinct neighborhoods, this ship is massive, even by Royal Caribbean standards. While it doesn’t hold the number one spot for the largest ship in the fleet, Utopia is the largest Oasis Class ship currently sailing, and it packs an unbelievable amount of entertainment, dining, and experiences into a short sailing.Â

The World’s Biggest Weekend
Table of Contents
Royal Caribbean is marketing Utopia as “The World’s Biggest Weekend” and that tagline actually holds up. Utopia sails on 3 and 4 night itineraries out of Port Canaveral. Perfectly designed for travelers who want maximum fun without committing to a full week at sea. Every sailing includes stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau, Bahamas. This makes this ship ideal for first time cruisers, quick friend trips, celebrations, or families who are trying to fit in a trip while missing minimal school days.Â
Let’s be very clear though: it is not possible to do everything on Utopia in one sailing and that’s okay. The key to loving this ship is knowing what matters most to you and planning accordingly.

Utopia of the Sea’s 8 Neighborhoods
Utopia of the Seas is divided into eight themed neighborhoods. Each has its own vibe, dining, and entertainment. Understanding these neighborhoods before you sail will save you a lot of wandering.
Royal Promenade
The heart of the ship and home to shops, bars, cafés, and the Rising Tide Bar (a moving elevator bar that travels between decks 5 and 8). This area is buzzing day and night. Walking into this area, you may never even know you were on a cruise ship.
Central Park
Open-air, calm, and leafy. Think upscale dining, live acoustic music, and a peaceful escape from the chaos. There are even sounds of wildlife piped in, so you can hear crickets chirping as you walk through at night.

The Boardwalk
High-energy, carnival-style fun with arcade games, a carousel, and even a hot dog stand. This is where you will find the Aquatheater for the absolutely cannot-miss Aqua80Too water show.Â
Pool & Sports Zone
Multiple pools, FlowRider surf simulators, sports courts, and sun-soaked lounging. You can find mini-golf, a playground for the kiddos, the zipline, and the entrance to the Ultimate Abyss here on the top deck.Â
Entertainment Place
Home to theaters, comedy clubs, ice skating rink, and headline shows.Â
Vitality at Sea Spa & Fitness
Adults-focused wellness area with the spa, thermal suite, gym, and salon.
Youth Zone
Dedicated spaces for kids and teens, broken down by age group.
Suite Neighborhood
A more exclusive area for suite guests with private dining, sun deck, and lounge access.
Each neighborhood is designed with intention. Knowing what is where before you arrive can help you from being turned around and wasting precious time on a short getaway.
What You Need To Know Before You Book
Utopia of the Seas is not a cruise I would recommend for someone looking for peak relaxation. This ship is loud, fun, busy, and full of entertainment. If you love shows, nightlife, activities, and variety, you’ll thrive here. If you’re looking for quiet sea days and long naps on deck, this might not be your ship.
Because the itineraries are short, planning matters more than on longer cruises. Show reservations, dining plans, and priority activities fill up quickly. You’ll want to decide early on what your priorities are. Do you want specialty dining? Are the shows important to you? Do you want to purchase the internet or drink packages? Deciding on what is a non-negotiable can help ensure you get to see the shows you want, dine at the restaurants you want (and at decent times), and that you can secure the best price on your add on packages.
What You Need To Know Before You Sail
45 days before sailing at midnight eastern time, you’ll complete online check-in. The earlier you check in, the better your Port Arrival Time (PAT) which means earlier boarding and more time onboard. In order to complete online check-in, you will need your accepted documentation (passport, birth certificate, ID), a security photo for each guest, and a credit card for onboard expenses.Â
Travel Agent Tip: Get a passport! Even if you are on a closed-loop cruise and a passport is not required, it will give you so much peace of mind to know you have the proper documentation regardless of what could happen.Â
Before you sail, download the Royal Caribbean App. You can access it onboard without the internet to see the daily schedule and chat with friends onboard. 24 hours before you sail, you’ll have to complete the health questionnaire that becomes available. You’ll also want to print your luggage tags and attach them before your arrival at the port. Only carry on what you’re willing to drag around until your room is ready. Speaking of your carry on, each adult may carry on one 750 mL bottle of wine or champagne (no beer or liquor). This has to stay in your carry on. The rest of your bags can be given to the luggage porters and will be taken to your room. Bring cash to tip your luggage porters!
Once onboard, you’ll complete your muster drill and then it’s straight into the sail away party.
