Why Visit the National Parks?

National Parks have been featured often here on the blog, and it’s not hard to see why; the National Parks Service is truly one of our country’s greatest treasures.  We have an entire blog dedicated to A Dozen National Parks You Need on Your Travel Bucket List, and we also highlighted “A National Park Expedition” on our list of Top Ten Journeys of a Lifetime (and if you didn’t catch that list, check it out here).

Although the National Parks Service was created by President Wilson in 1916 (at which point there were already 35 National Parks in existence throughout the country), most people would agree that it was President Theodore Roosevelt who had the greatest impact on the National Parks throughout the country, and what they have become today. There is even a Park named for him: the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota; furthermore, his Summer Home, Sagamore Hill in Long Island, New York is designated as a National Historic Site, and part of the National Park Service, as well.

In addition, it was the National Park Service of the United States that inspired many other countries throughout the world to adopt similar services and create National Parks of their own, which is definitely something Americans can be proud of. It would be such a shame to live your life in the United States, and never take advantage of the incredible amount of protected and preserved land we have.

And with 424 National Park Sites throughout the country, there is sure to be at least one, if not dozens more that spark your interest! Of that 424, there are 63 sites that have “National Park” in their official title, and it’s generally these 63 that come to mind when most people think of National Parks, such as Grand Canyon National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Acadia National Park, just to name a few.

National Parks Adventure

This month’s Inspiring Itinerary features not just one, but two of those big name National Parks: Grand Canyon National Park, and Arches National Park, as well as plenty of adventure in between, too! So what are we waiting for?

Let’s Go!

National Parks Adventure

Day 1

Your adventure begins as soon as you touch down at Phoenix International Airport, where an enthusiastic guide will greet you and handle your luggage, setting the tone for a stress-free experience. Then, you’ll climb aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned motor coach for a scenic drive to Sedona. The journey itself is a treat, offering glimpses of Arizona’s rugged beauty along the way.

Upon arrival at your stunning resort, nestled amidst over 70 acres of lush scrub forest and striking red rock formations, you’ll feel the magic of this extraordinary place. Check in and take some time to wander the resort’s captivating grounds, soaking in the mystical atmosphere and breathtaking views that make this destination so special.

As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the majestic Boynton Canyon, gather with your fellow adventurers for a delightful welcome dinner. Enjoy a feast for the senses, with the evening’s culinary delights complemented by the serene sounds of a Native American flute. As the night sky unfolds above, the stars twinkle brightly, offering a celestial spectacle that perfectly concludes your first day in this enchanting locale.

Day 2

As the sun rises over Sedona, begin your day with a delightful breakfast at the resort, fueling up for an exhilarating adventure ahead: an off-road journey through Diamondback Gulch. Climb into a rugged vehicle and brace yourself for a thrilling ride across the high desert landscape. Feel the adrenaline surge as you descend into the Grand Arroyos, surrounded by the raw beauty of nature. The breathtaking vistas as you ascend the other side are nothing short of awe-inspiring, a perfect blend of rugged terrain and sweeping views.

After this heart-pounding experience, unwind with a leisurely lunch in Uptown Sedona. Savor delicious dishes and share the excitement of the morning’s adventure with your fellow travelers. The afternoon is yours to explore; whether you’re drawn to the charming shops and galleries, or prefer the tranquility of the resort’s many amenities, there’s something for everyone. Perhaps a dip in the pool, a round of pitch ‘n’ putt golf, or a soothing spa treatment is just what you need to recharge.

For dinner tonight, your knowledgeable guide will share a variety of selections in Sedona to enjoy a relaxing meal. End your day surrounded by the stunning backdrop of red rocks and expansive skies that seem almost too spectacular to even be real.

As you step out towards the edge, the vast expanse of the canyon unfolds before you, a breathtaking sight that words can’t quite capture.
