How to Plan Your Hollywood Studios Day – Hollywood Studios Touring Plan – with Genie+

Last updated: May 16, 2024.  Please email us if you find any errors.

Are you planning your Disney World vacation and feeling overwhelmed with the options and unsure how to navigate the parks?  Disney can often leave guests, first-timers, and repeaters, overwhelmed. Using our Hollywood Studios touring plan in place will help to ensure your day’s success!  Let’s get started!

Hollywood Studios Tower of Terror

Hollywood Studios is the smallest of the four Disney World theme parks and has the fewest attractions.

Many guests think this means they don’t need a plan or a full day to cover everything Hollywood Studios has to offer. But in fact, it’s quite the opposite.  Fewer attractions to choose from means longer lines.

This is the park that I would purchase Genie+ and Lightning Lane for every single visit. Avoid the long lines as much as possible!Hollywood Studios park map

What You Need to Know About Genie+ and Lightning Lane Before Visiting Hollywood Studios

Genie+

Genie+ is a paid service at Walt Disney World that replaced the old FastPass system and works a bit differently.

Genie+ Guide

Genie+ can be purchased each day of your trip and must be purchased for each person in your party who wants to ride with Genie+.

Attractions are selected on the official Walt Disney World app (My Disney Experience) with a specific return time when you can join the Lightning Lane line.

Lightning Lane is a separate lane at participating attractions that allows guests to skip the standby line (regular queue).

All guests who purchase Genie+ are eligible to select their first Genie+ attraction at 7:00 am.  My Disney Experience account Genie+

Pro Tip: It’s best to purchase Genie+ by 6:45 am so you are ready to select at 7:00 am.

You can make a second selection either 2 hours after park opening or after you use your first Genie selection – whichever comes first.

For a complete list of Genie+ attractions and priorities visit our Genie + Priorities – Hollywood Studios Attractions. For the Hollywood Studios touring plan, please continue reading.

Lightning Lane

Some of the more popular rides in each park are not included with your Genie+ purchase.  However, you can purchase Lightning Lane access separately.  These few attractions are called “Individual Lightning Lanes”. Confused yet?  We know, the names make it extra tricky! But we promise, it will all come together for you!Hollywood Studios Genie+ and Lightning Lane options

Individual Lightning Lanes can purchased, in your My Disney Experience app, as a per person, per ride add on – for each ride offered.

Those rides are: (Subject to change)

  • Hollywood Studios – Rise of the Resistance
  • Animal Kingdom – Flight of Passage
  • Magic Kingdom – TRON and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Epcot – Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind

Guests of Walt Disney World hotels can purchase Individual Lightning Lanes at 7:00 am. All other guests can make a selection at the official park opening time.  Just one more reason guests should stay at one of Disney Worlds many resorts.

Prices change based on park and date attending.

Virtual Queue

Hollywood Studios does not currently offer virtual queue for any of its attractions.

Virtual queue is another way to ride some attractions. Everyone can join a virtual queue at 7:00 am or 1:00 pm, but you can’t join both times for the same attraction.

Joining the virtual queue at 7:00 am may be done from anywhere. To join the 1:00 pm virtual queue, you must be scanned into that park to join the queue.

Once your group is called for the queue, you will be able to get in line for that attraction. You have a one hour window to return to the attraction to ride.

Current rides that have Virtual Queue:

Please note: These rides do not offer a regular standby line at this time. The only way to ride these attractions is by virtual queue or purchase an individual Lightning Lane.  Subject to change.

  • Hollywood Studios – None
  • Magic Kingdom – Tron
  • Epcot – Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind
  • Animal Kingdom – None

Tips for Success:

Always set an alarm on your phone for the time you can pick another Genie+ selection! The app tells you exactly what time you can choose the next one.

Check the app each time you scan in for a ride in case you can select a new ride.

Other Entertainment

Hollywood Studios offers much more than attractions to fill your magical day.

Currently, there are a few options for evening entertainment at Hollywood Studios.  Disney Movie Magic followed by Wonderful World of Animation and Fantasmic.  You can not see both in one evening, the times overlap.  (During busy seasons Fantasmic may be offered twice in an evening). If you only have one evening, choose to watch Fantasmic.  Plan to arrive to the venue 45 mins to an hour beforehand for the best seats. This will most likely be the last thing you do on your Hollywood Studios day as the park is typically closed after the show.

Additionally, you can make a reservation for the Fantasmic Dining Package for reserved seating.  Reservations are made on your My Disney Experience App 60 days prior to arrival.
