My Disney Experience is Disney’s key to the kingdom (sort of speak). It is no secret that the app is critical when it comes to planning for your magical Walt Disney World vacation. However, understanding all the ins and outs of the app can be quite daunting if you aren’t familiar with it. 

My Disney Experience is not just an app; it’s a pivotal tool that enhances every aspect of any Guest’s Disney vacation, from planning and navigation to personalized experiences and real-time adjustments. 

In this blog post, I’ll explain how the app operates and the key features you need to be aware of so you can navigate your trip with ease. By the end of this guide, you’ll be a PRO.

1. My Disney Experience (MDE) App Overview

Introduction to My Disney Experience (MDE):

  • The My Disney Experience app is an essential tool for anyone planning a visit to a Disney theme park. Available for both Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts, the app provides a seamless and immersive experience for guests.

Key Features

  • Park Information: Access real-time information about park hours, showtimes, and attraction availability.
  • Interactive Maps: Navigate through the parks with detailed, interactive maps featuring attractions, dining, restrooms, and more. Tip: Don’t let this replace the paper park map that you can pick up on your way into the park or throughout the park at various locations. These are classic and make great souvenirs!
  • Dining Reservations: Make and manage dining reservations at various restaurants across the parks and resorts.
  • Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes (ILL): Reserve access to select attractions, entertainment, and character meet-ups to minimize wait times.
  • Mobile Food Order: Skip the lines by ordering meals and snacks ahead of time from participating restaurants through the app. This is a GREAT timesaver and one of the features I use most often.
  • PhotoPass: View and download photos taken by Disney’s PhotoPass photographers during your visit.
  • Virtual Queues (VQ): Join virtual queues for popular attractions, enhancing the ride experience. Certain attractions (usually the newest and most popular) have the VQ options. In many cases, the VQ replaces stand-by lines and often the only way you can ride the attraction.
  • My Plans: Create and organize your daily itinerary, including park visits, dining, and Genie+ selections and Individual Lightning Lanes.

Account Setup

  • Guests can create a My Disney Experience account, linking park tickets, MagicBands, and friends or family members for a fully integrated experience.


  • Customize your profile with preferences, manage family and friends, and personalize MagicBands for an immersive and tailored Disney adventure.

Real-Time Updates

  • Receive real-time updates on wait times, show schedules, and park conditions, ensuring you stay informed throughout your visit. If there is ever an emergency or urgent message from Disney, you will receive a notification direct on the app keeping you up-to-date at all times.

MagicMobile Service

  • Enjoy the convenience of MagicMobile, allowing you to use your smartphone as a digital ticket and MagicBand for park entry and other features.

Sign Up

  • Click on the “Sign In or Create Account” option.
  • If you don’t have an account, choose “Create Account” and provide the required information, including your email address and a secure password.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to verify your email and complete the registration process.

Customize Your Profile

  • Once registered, sign in to your newly created account.
  • Navigate to the “My Account” section, usually found in the top-right corner.
  • Update your profile information. This may include your name, address, and contact details.
  • Add a profile picture to personalize your account.

    • Access the operating hours for each park, allowing you to plan your visit accordingly.
  • Wait Times:
    • Monitor real-time wait times for attractions to optimize your schedule.

Dining Reservations and Genie +

  • Dining Reservations:
    • See a list of your dining reservations, including the date, time, and restaurant details in the “My Day” tab. 
  • Genie + Selections:
    • View your chosen Genie + selections for various attractions, rides, and shows.

Mobile Food Order

  • Mobile Food Order:
    • Utilize the mobile food order feature to skip lines and pre-order meals at select dining locations.

Photos (PhotoPass and Memory Maker)

  • PhotoPass:
    • Access PhotoPass photos linked to your account for instant memories.
  • Memory Maker:
    • If purchased, explore and download all your Disney PhotoPass photos through Memory Maker.

Park-Specific Information

  • Individual Park Tabs:
    • Click on park icons for detailed information specific to each park, including attractions, dining options, and entertainment.

  • Unlock Genie + Selections:
    • Linked tickets are essential for making Genie + selections, so ensure they are properly linked to your account. All family and friends need to be linked in order to manage Genie + for the whole party
  • Link PhotoPass Photos:
    • If you have Memory Maker, linked MagicBands will automatically connect your PhotoPass photos to your account.
  • Verify Mobile Food Order Access:
    • Confirm that your linked tickets or MagicBands allow you to use the mobile food order feature.


  • Check for Errors:
    • Regularly review your linked tickets and MagicBands for any errors or discrepancies.
